PreK Program

The PreK Program serves children who will have turned four years old by October 15 of the current school year and who live in a town served by MSAD 3, 34 or 56.  The PreK Program is FREE to eligible children.

The PreK Program provides curious young learners with positive cognitive, physical and social experiences as they develop the skills necessary to enter kindergarten ready to succeed.

The classroom learning centers are well equipped with a rich variety of educational materials and toys. The daily storytelling, book-sharing, song and movement activities nurture the young child’s language development and his or her first steps toward learning to read. The daily routine encourages each child’s development of self-discipline, self-esteem and creativity. The certified and experienced teachers nurture and honor each child’s individual needs, interests and strengths.

The PreK Program provides children with

  • a rich early educational experience;
  • literacy and language infused classrooms;
  • Maine state certified teachers;
  • research-based instructional strategies and the High/Scope curriculum;
  • on-going screening and assessments to measure the skills children are gaining and to identify those who might be at risk of developing reading or other learning difficulties;
  • computer learning centers;
  • preschool/ elementary school/ parent partnership that supports a seamless transition to kindergarten; and
  • transportation to and from the program for children living within the elementary school catchment area.

The PreK Programs of Maine School Administrative Districts 3, 34 and 56 are delivered in collaboration with Broadreach Family & Community Services and Waldo County Head Start.

MCCS Early School

Mid-Coast Children's Services (MCCS) has been serving the children and families of Knox County and neighboring communities for over twenty years. In July 2005, MCCS merged with Waldo County Preschool & Family Services (now known as Broadreach Family & Community Services). MCCS provides a wide range of educational and support services to families with young children.

The Early School Program provides a comprehensive preschool program for children 2 1/2 to 5 years old. The classrooms and curriculum are designed to meet the individual developmental and educational goals of young children. We specialize in serving children with special learning and developmental needs. The daily schedule provides opportunities for individual and group experiences, indoor and outdoor movement, nutritious meals and snacks and a variety of fun and educational activities that allow children to experience success as they learn. Additional services such as Speech, Developmental, Physical, Occupational, Sensory Motor, and Movement Therapy are available to meet group and individual needs.

The Early School Program offers:

  • early childhood classrooms licensed by the State of Maine and accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children;
  • certified early childhood educators;
  • nutritious meals and snacks;
  • literacy-enriched High/Scope curriculum;
  • indoor and outdoor games;
  • six week summer program;
  • kindergarten transition support;
  • on-site speech, language, developmental and occupational therapy available.

Mid-Coast Children's Services is a program of Broadreach Family & Community Services. Services are supported, in part, by funding from the Maine Department of Health and Human Services. MCCS is grateful to the individuals, businesses and foundations whose support helps to provide crucial services for children and families.
